Windows Phone 7/8 Applications

These are some of my Windows Phone applications.

WP7/8
This is an old school NFC (Near Field Communication). The user enters a message that is displayed in the largest possible size, depending on the orientation of the phone. Since the message is probably bigger than the screen size, the message is scrolled to the left until the full message has been displayed. At that point it repeats.

The user can save the message as a tile on the phone's Start Page or in a table of messages. Messages from the table can be entered into the primary or secondary message are by using the arrow next to the prompt.

The user can enter a secondary message that will be displayed when the phone is in inverted landscape,

This WP7 app is available in English, French, Polish, Swedish, Spanish, Italian and German. The user has full control of the colours.

The trial limits the size of the message, the number of messages that can be saved to the table and only two secondary tiles.

LNum

WP7/8
Back when my daughter was in grade school, the teacher gave the students a large sheet of paper to practise doing multiplication and long division. Unfortunately, there was no way to verify the calculations. To get around this problem I created a pair of Excel spreadsheets so the children can verify and find out where they went wrong.

This app is a portable version of those spreadsheets.

I have tested the app up to fifty digits. When the calculations are larger than the screen, the screen can be scrolled to see more of the results.

The trial limits the number of digits in the number.

NameDay

WP8
In Europe it is common to celebrate your Name Day. This app will show the NameDays for the year sorted by date or name. The user can chose from one of eight countries. You can scroll up or down or click on the month of first letter to get to a jumplist for faster navigation.

This WP8 app is available in English, French, Polish, Swedish and German.

The Trial version will limit the number of names to about 20% of the names, the number of countries and has ads.

Trial and paid version.
Darts

WP7/8
This is a companion application for playing darts. An optional dart board can be used to enter the score. An out table can also be calculated.

The Trial version is limited to three players, no Out Chart and has ads.

Trial and paid version.
DBC

WP7/8
This is an aid for doing presentations that involve challenges to reinforce the material that was just presented. The participants are divided up into teams and after each presentations, the teams are given a challenge. The app records their finishing positions and assigns points. At the end of the event, the app has a leader board to indicate the finishing positions of each team.

The information is stored, so the event can go over several days.

The points per position can be changed and clicking on an entry will allow the organizers to assign bonus points to a team.

Allowing multple contests and exporting are features under consideration.

The app is available in English, French, Polish and German.

Paid version.
Liar's Dice

WP7/8
This game is an automated version of Liar's Dice where you roll five poker dice and try to bluff your opponents. Flick up to open the boxes lid.

The dice are rolled by shaking the phone and individual dis can be locked to prevent them from being rolled.

The box can be closed by flicking down. This will lock the di in place until the box is opened again.

Universal GPS

WP7/8
This was done as proof as to how fast an app can be created. It was created during one of the TechDay Canada Sessions in Ottawa before the phone was released. During one of the breaks, someone asked how hard it was to create an app and we talked about what a simple app could do. At the next break I demonstrated the app.

The red X is animated and was trivial to do in Expression Blend.

Though I had read about WP7 development, this was my first Windows Phone app.
