So what is new in Office 2007?

Microsoft has some preview information here. You may be able to obtain a copy of the Office Beta 2 from here. Microsoft has an online book (pdf) about Office 2007 called "First Look Microsoft Office 2007"

General

Office 2007 is the next version of the Office products that will run on the XP and Vista Operating systems.

Microsoft has several resources for Office 2007.

The new UI

Access 2007, Excel 2007, Outlook 2007, PowerPoint 2007 and Word 2007 have a new UI. The new UI uses a Ribbon in place of the classic menu structure that features the most relevant tasks for the current situation. The File Open, Save as commands are behind the Office icon in the upper left corner.

Zoom Bar

On the programs with the new UI have a zoom bar at the lower right corner. The slide is used to quicky zoom in and out.

New File Format

Microsoft has listened to the corporate customers who did not want to get locked into a proprietary file format. The new file format, XML Paper Specification (XPS), is XML based. To keep the size of the files small, the XML information, along with a few other XML files, are compressed into a single file. The file can be uncompressed with any ZIP program.

Acrobat files:

Office 2007 documents will also be able to export to (Portable Document Format (PDF aka Adobe Acrobat). A special PDF writer will no longer be required. Due to a pending issue with Adobe, this feature may be implemented as an add on feature.
